THE USEFUL DIFFERENCE

Mob is a relevant alternative if fresh recipe ideas are what bring you back to a meal planner. Judge its food and cooking effort first, then test whether its plan and list work in your normal week.

Mealime closes on 21 October 2026. Pro is now free and existing subscriptions will not renew, according to version 4.21.35’s release notes. All Mealime recipes continue in free Meals Hub, where plans and shopping lists remain usable without a nearby Albertsons Companies store. If you mainly want the familiar catalogue, that is the first alternative to consider. Mealime’s official announcement.

Start with the food, then check the tools

There is little value in a perfectly organised meal plan if the dinners do not appeal to you. Mob is especially worth a look when you enjoy discovering new combinations and want that inspiration connected to a practical cooking routine.

Mob Premium includes more than 4,000 chef-created recipes with weekly additions. Its For You feed suggests recipes from your preferences, while Saved holds favourites and collections. This is a recipe service with planning tools: the value starts with wanting to cook its food. Mob’s Premium feature guide. Its Android listing also documents an aisle-organised list and step-by-step cooking that keeps the screen awake.

Our interpretation is that the recipe selection should be the deciding first test. Browse for an ordinary weeknight, not a dinner party. Find three dishes you would make with your usual equipment and supermarket, then read the instructions before you decide whether the collection suits you.

Mealime’s baseline is documented in its official listing and serving preferences. Mob explains its shopping workflow, portion changes and saved collections.

Planning in Mob’s app centres on the Shopping List. Its current guide describes collecting the recipes you intend to cook that week, then starting a new week after marking them cooked. That supports a flexible set of dinners. It does not establish the same dated calendar workflow as Plan to Eat, where assigning meals to particular days is central. Mob’s documented planning sequence.

Look past the recipe photograph

For each candidate dinner, check preparation before the hob goes on. Does the recipe need a marinade, advance chopping or a component cooked separately? Count how many pans it uses and whether two steps need attention at the same time.

Then look at shopping overlap. A week of appealing dishes can still leave several half-used herbs, sauces and vegetables. Choose one pair of dinners with a shared fresh ingredient and check whether you would enjoy both. Overlap is helpful when it fits what you want to eat; it should not turn the week into a compulsory exercise in finishing everything.

Keep one meal deliberately simple. A planner should leave room for the evening when you arrive home late. If every saved recipe needs an enthusiastic cook, make an “easy nights” collection before adding more ambitious dishes.

Mob’s Adapt Recipe tool sits below the ingredients and supports ingredient swaps, spice changes and, for some dishes, alternative cooking methods. The ingredient list, method and Nutrition button let you inspect a dish before adding it. Recipe adaptations and nutrition information.

Mob membership: check your region and billing term

Checked on 12 September 2026, Mob Premium’s UK App Store listing shows £6.99 monthly or £39.99 annually. Its US listing shows US$9.99 monthly or US$59.99 annually. These are separate storefront offers, not currency conversions or guaranteed website prices. Mob says prices can vary by signup platform, region and promotion, while each route gives full Premium access. Official pricing guidance.

At those listed UK prices, paying monthly for twelve months would be £83.88. That comparison only matters if you will still use the membership later in the year. A discounted annual equivalent should not replace the basic question of whether enough recipes fit your tastes.

The app listings advertise a seven-day Premium trial. Mob’s help centre says trial lengths can vary, payment details are required and eligibility is limited to one trial per person. A trial converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled; a returning trial user may be charged immediately. Check the duration and renewal amount displayed at signup. Mob’s trial terms.

Plan in the app if you expect to shop with your phone. Mob says a subscription works on web, phone and tablet, using the same login method, but warns that recipes added to website meal plans may not sync to the app. Saved recipes do sync, sometimes taking five to ten minutes. Device access and saved recipes and the website-plan limitation. The iPhone app requires iOS 16 or later; an Android app is also listed.

A three-dinner trial for a realistic week

For a two-person household, build a small week around one quick dinner, one meal that uses what is already at home and one new dish. This worksheet applies Mob’s documented controls; it is an example of a planning routine.

StepExample actionWhat it achieves
1. Find the first dinnerIn Discover, search for a fresh ingredient you own and filter by cooking time.Your first choice starts with the kitchen and the evening available.
2. Size and add itSet two servings, then tap the recipe’s + button at the top right. The ingredients enter the Shopping List at the selected quantity.
3. Complete the weekReview its ingredient-based suggestions for dinner two; search for a different third dish. You can use overlap without making every dinner similar.
4. Finish the whole shopAdd milk and toothpaste to the same list, then tick items off while shopping.Household extras do not require a second app.
5. Keep what workedSave repeatable dishes into an “easy nights” collection.Next week starts with a usable rotation.

The steps follow Mob’s guides to searching and collections, serving sizes and recipe additions, suggestions and extra groceries. Read the cooking instructions before deciding which evening each dish belongs to.

Keep your Mealime collection separate during the trial. Use our readable backup tool for favourites you want to retain. A new subscription does not recreate an old account, and this comparison does not promise that Mob can ingest the resulting files.

If keeping individual recipes in a different app is your main goal, see our MealPot comparison. MealPot is our product, and recipe import requires Pro. It is available for iPhone and iPad on iOS/iPadOS 17 or later; the browser’s TXT/JSON backup is separate from app import. MealPot’s App Store listing.

A successful trial leaves you with meals you want to repeat and a shop you can finish without reorganising everything. If you love the recipes but prefer another planner, you can still make the membership decision based on the inspiration itself rather than expecting one product to do every job.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mob a meal-kit delivery service?

Mob’s developer listing says you buy your own ingredients at your chosen supermarket. Evaluate it as recipes and planning tools; a membership is separate from the food you buy.

How much does Mob cost in the UK?

The UK App Store listing checked on 12 September 2026 shows £6.99 monthly or £39.99 annually. Website offers can differ. The signup screen confirms your actual price and trial before you subscribe.

Can I bring my complete Mealime account into Mob?

We have not verified such a transfer. Save the recipes you care about independently, and check Mob’s current supported tools before assuming it can import individual links or backup files.

Can I add groceries that are not in a recipe?

Yes. Mob documents adding household extras and pantry basics to its Shopping List, alongside the ingredients from your chosen recipes.

Will a plan made on the website appear in the app?

Mob warns that recipes added to website meal plans may not sync to the app. Add recipes directly in the app for its recommended planning workflow. Saved recipes are a separate feature and sync through the same account.
