THE USEFUL DIFFERENCE
eMeals is worth considering if you want a recurring selection of dinner ideas and a route from chosen recipes to groceries. The deciding test is whether both the meals and your local shopping options fit.
Mealime closes on 21 October 2026. Its Pro recipes and features are now available to all users, with no further subscription charges. Its catalogue continues in free Meals Hub, through Albertsons Companies apps and websites; recipes, plans and lists remain usable without a nearby store. Compare eMeals with that free continuation as well as with the Mealime app you know. Mealime’s official announcement does not promise a complete private-account transfer.
Keep dinner inspiration in the routine
If the part you loved about Mealime was being offered plausible dinners, begin your comparison with the recipes rather than the list of integrations. A convenient checkout will not rescue a week of meals nobody is looking forward to eating.
eMeals supplies weekly recipe choices across several food styles. Its plan catalogue includes options such as 30 Minute, Budget Friendly, Kid Friendly, Plant Based and Mediterranean. Source: eMeals meal-plan catalogue.
Read the full method for a few appealing dishes. “Quick” may still involve chopping, several pans and clearing the kitchen. Compare the recipe with the evening you would assign it to, including who is available to cook. A busy household may prefer two fresh ideas and one dependable repeat to an entirely new menu.
How familiar dinners return next week
eMeals publishes seven recipes per plan each week, but you choose which ones to use. Its official planning workflow also draws from other styles, collections, Favorites and View Previous Plans at the bottom of the Meal Plans screen. You can combine a new dish with a saved favourite instead of accepting seven new dinners.
The older-plan help adds a useful limit: the app stores menus from when it is downloaded, and you must open it during the week a menu is posted for that menu to appear in this archive. Reusing recipes from that history is documented; an automatic repeating calendar schedule is not established by these instructions.
The differences that affect a weekly shop
| Your priority | Mealime / Meals Hub | eMeals |
|---|---|---|
| Dinner inspiration | Mealime’s catalogue, dietary preferences and planning tools continue in Meals Hub. | Seven new recipes per weekly plan, with access to other food styles and collections. |
| Repeating favourites | Keep original recipe links; catalogue continuity does not guarantee transfer of your saved account collection. | Select from Favorites and available previous plans alongside this week’s ideas. |
| Personal recipes | A separate backup preserves selected accessible recipes before the app closes. | Personal family recipes and web recipes can supplement the supplied plans. |
| Shopping | Meals Hub can generate a list even if you cannot shop at an Albertsons Companies store. | Shop independently or send ingredients to a supported local grocery partner. |
| Planning cost | Current Mealime Pro access and Meals Hub are free. | Paid subscription following an eligible 14-day trial; food costs extra. |

Which device will you use?
eMeals provides iOS and Android apps for active subscribers. Its US App Store listing identifies an iPhone app requiring iOS 16.6 or later; it does not advertise an iPad-specific app. Its plan-switching help also documents the website’s My Meal Plans area. Do not assume every mobile shopping feature has a desktop equivalent. Meals Hub explicitly supports both store websites and apps.
Compare ingredients with the actual basket
Start with the recipe list and remove food already in your kitchen. Then inspect the retailer basket separately. A recipe needing half a pepper does not mean the shop sells half a pepper, and a small amount of a spice may require buying an entire jar.
Suppose two dinners use one lemon each and you already have one. Your shopping requirement is one lemon. If the retailer matches that requirement to a multipack, the checkout reflects the pack. Neither the meal count nor a per-portion estimate is enough to predict the final bill.
Check substitutions while the recipe is visible. A replacement can change the preparation, flavour or quantity you need. If a main ingredient is unavailable, changing one dinner before checkout may be simpler than accepting a poor match and solving it when you start cooking.
From dinner choices to a placed order
- Select recipes → ingredient list. Check off items already in your kitchen and add household extras.
- Select an Option → local store. Enter your ZIP code in the shopping tab, choose an available partner and sign in to that grocery account.
- Shop Now → product review. Build the basket from the ingredients. Walmart on iOS has a documented matching flow with alternatives and an Add Items to Cart control; other documented routes work ingredient by ingredient.
- Retailer checkout → order confirmation. Review quantities, collection or delivery arrangements and the total, then complete checkout. The grocery provider supplies the confirmation.
This sequence follows eMeals’ general grocery guide and its Walmart iOS guide, which describes an update introduced in January 2023. Sending ingredients or adding products to a cart is not a completed order. Partner availability starts with your ZIP code, and delivery or service charges belong in the retailer total.
Separate planning, groceries and any extras
Checked on 12 September 2026: eMeals’ pricing FAQ lists dinner planning at US$59.99 for 12 months or US$37.50 for three months. Its annual All Day bundle, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, is US$99.98. Breakfast and lunch can also be added separately.
There is a real discrepancy in the official material: another billing-help page lists three-month dinner at US$35.99. Use the amount and renewal term shown in your own web or app-store purchase screen; the lower help-page figure is not a guaranteed offer.
New customers are offered a 14-day trial. eMeals’ trial policy says to cancel before the trial renewal date to avoid a charge. This is a trial of a subscription, not an ongoing free plan.
The “per month” annual equivalent is not a promise of monthly billing. Compare the amount you pay now with how long you expect to use the service. Groceries, delivery charges and any retailer membership are separate budget lines.
During your trial, choose the shopping method you would normally use. If you prefer walking around a familiar supermarket, test the list there. If delivery is essential, assess it at your real address rather than assuming a national partner logo covers your situation.
A useful eMeals trial for a Mealime household
- Pick three dinners from the available styles: one easy evening, one meal everybody recognises and one new recipe.
- Read the methods and check the serving counts before generating your list.
- Remove pantry items, then add the breakfast and household groceries your dinner choices do not cover.
- Try your usual shopping route. For an online order, inspect product matches, pack quantities, substitutions and fees before checkout.
- Cook one dinner and assess the real preparation effort. Keep notes on whether the next week’s selection is also appealing.
If you want to retain Mealime favourites, save their original links and use the backup tool for a readable reference. Try eMeals’ current personal-recipe route with one of them. The availability of recipe saving does not establish that every Mealime link will extract correctly or that an entire account transfers.
Finish the comparison by asking what you would keep paying for: new recipe choices, organising your week, or the grocery handoff. If the Mealime catalogue is the main attraction, start with free Meals Hub. If a fresh weekly menu and an available grocery partner reduce your planning effort, eMeals offers a clear subscription proposition.
If your priority is collecting individual recipes you already choose, MealPot is another option. Its documented flow is Recipes → + → Import Recipe → review → save to My Recipes, and import requires MealPot Pro. The public listing supports iPhone and iPad on iOS/iPadOS 17 or later. Treat that as a recipe-organising choice, without assuming eMeals’ retailer checkout connections or automatic transfer of a Mealime account.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to order groceries through eMeals?
No. Its official FAQ says you can shop yourself at the store you choose. Online ordering is an optional workflow to test with your local retailer.
Is the eMeals subscription price the cost of food?
No. Budget for the planning subscription and groceries separately, then check any delivery fees or retailer charges. Ingredient amounts also differ from full pack purchase amounts.
Can I keep using recipes outside the weekly eMeals plans?
Yes. eMeals documents personal and web recipes, plus Favorites and previous plans. Its archive help says a weekly menu is saved to Previous Plans when you open the app during that week.
Does the eMeals trial become paid automatically?
The official trial instructions say to cancel before the trial renewal date to avoid a charge. Check the package, full term amount and renewal date on your purchase screen; official help pages currently disagree on the three-month dinner price.
Does sending my eMeals list place a grocery order?
No. The documented flow still requires reviewing products and completing retailer checkout. The grocery store sends the order confirmation.
Is eMeals the only way to replace Mealime?
No. Free Meals Hub continues the Mealime catalogue and planning tools. eMeals supplies its own weekly menus and grocery connections; a recipe organiser such as MealPot addresses collecting selected recipes.
