AT A GLANCE

Start with one favourite and your current grocery list. Mealime is scheduled to close on 21 October 2026; its catalogue will continue in Meals Hub. Mealime’s notice says existing Pro subscribers will pay no additional subscription fees before closure. The iOS 4.21.35 release notes say Pro is now free for everyone.

Your five steps.

Tick each step when you have checked the result. Progress stays in this browser when local storage is available; it does not sync between devices. Clearing this site’s browser data resets the ticks.

Record the dishes you cook often. Save a recipe link or make a copy you can read. Try the backup tool with one recipe first.

Take screenshots or save readable copies. Include any extra groceries you added yourself.

Record portions, dietary settings and foods to avoid. You may need to enter them again in your next app.

Check ingredient amounts and cooking instructions. Create a small plan and see whether the grocery list suits you. Compare the options.

Make sure you can read the ingredients and every step outside Mealime. Keep the original copy until you have verified the new one.

Keep the recipe and the context.

Choose a few dishes you actually want to cook next. For each, keep the title and original link alongside a readable copy of the ingredients and method. A bookmark alone still depends on the recipe website.

Keep thisInclude these details
Each favouriteRecipe title, original URL, serving count, ingredients with amounts, complete instructions and your own changes.
Current planMeal titles, portions and which meals you have already cooked. Record planned leftovers separately.
Grocery listRemaining purchases, items already bought and manually added groceries such as milk or household supplies.
PreferencesYour usual portions, dietary choices, foods to exclude and personal substitutions.

On iOS, Mealime’s July 2019 sharing instructions describe opening a recipe and using its More menu to share. Copy the recipe link using the controls available in your version. For a plan or long list, check that screenshots include the bottom as well as the first screen.

Keep your source copy until the replacement is verified. If an ingredient amount is absent, compare with the original while you can still open it. Do not treat an importer’s estimate as the original measurement.

Choose where each recipe goes.

You can use more than one route: a file for your own records and an app for the next plan.

Mealime’s continuing catalogueMeals Hub is the free official continuation. Find your favourites there and set up your preferences.

Mealime says Meals Hub includes its recipes, supports plans and shopping lists, and works even if you cannot shop at an Albertsons Companies store. In a store app, open More → Meals Hub, or start with the official web store selector. These routes come from Mealime’s transition guide.

Bringing recipes into MealPot.

Import requires MealPot Pro. Check iPhone and iPad compatibility before downloading, then read the local Pro offer in the app.

  1. Open your chosen Mealime recipe and copy its individual share link.
  2. In MealPot, open Recipes → + → Import Recipe and paste the link.
  3. Compare the review with your source: serving count, ingredient amounts and the complete method. Correct missing or estimated details before saving.
  4. Tap Save to My Recipes. Reopen the saved recipe and check it, then select it manually for your plan.

Follow the illustrated Mealime import guide for the Share → Copy controls, app screenshots, short video, example recipe and help with missing quantities.

The website’s TXT and JSON backups are separate files. Use the original recipe URL for this app workflow; it does not transfer your Mealime account, favourites collection or existing plan. If import fails, keep the source and readable copy, then use the walkthrough’s troubleshooting steps before trying more recipes.

Recreate the settings you rely on.

For Meals Hub, create or sign in to an Albertsons Companies store account. Mealime says some settings must be established again, with dietary preferences managed in your Meals Hub profile. Check those settings before choosing recipes; catalogue availability does not mean your personal favourites and preferences have moved automatically. See the account and preferences answers.

For any replacement, enter your recorded portions and exclusions, then open one familiar dish to see how the choices affect your plan. If someone else shops or cooks, make sure they can open the agreed plan and list on their own device. Our household sharing guide gives you a short two-device check.

Keep access to Mealime while collecting your records. Use sign-in help if needed, and save what you need before requesting account deletion. For a billing record or unexpected charge, follow the provider on your receipt through the subscription guide.

Before you call the switch finished.

Build a small first week: two familiar dinners and a flexible night for leftovers or something you already have. Keep the remaining nights in your usual routine while you check the new one.

  1. Before planning: set the portions you intend to cook, including any extra servings for lunch. Open both recipes and read the ingredients and method.
  2. Before shopping: compare the list with those recipes. Check quantities and units, remove only the food you actually have, and add your usual non-recipe groceries.
  3. In the shop: open the list on the device you will use. Confirm you can mark purchases and distinguish ingredients for this week from anything left on an older list.
  4. At the first dinner: open the recipe you saved, including its final instruction. Note any correction you had to make so the next use is easier.
  5. After the week: keep what worked, correct the portions or list, and bring over the next few favourites. Keep your readable backups in a folder you can find.

If an essential step fails, use your saved recipe and current list for that meal. Resolve that specific problem before rebuilding the rest of your collection. The weekly planning guide helps turn the verified recipes into your next plan.

If you would rather start with a new set of simple dinners, the free MealPot four-dinner cookbook has a printable shopping list and four recipes for two. It is separate from backing up your Mealime favourites.

Common questions.

Does completing this checklist move my Mealime account?

No. The checkboxes record your progress in this browser. Recipe files, app imports and a replacement account each need their own steps.

Do I need MealPot Pro to keep a backup?

No. The website backup is free and needs no account. Importing an individual recipe link into the MealPot app requires Pro; the downloaded TXT or JSON file is not an app-import shortcut.

Can I stop after saving a readable copy?

Yes, if that meets your needs. Open the downloaded file and check the ingredients, amounts and complete instructions. Keep the original link with it for reference.

When should I tick the last box?

After opening the backup outside Mealime and checking that the recipe is complete. Seeing a successful download message or saving a link is not the same as checking its contents.

What is the best free app for meal planning after Mealime?

Meals Hub keeps the Mealime catalogue free inside Albertsons Companies apps, and Samsung Food offers free saving and planning. MealPot is a free download on iPhone and iPad, with planning and import in Pro. Compare the alternatives.
