THE USEFUL DIFFERENCE

MealPrepPro is worth considering when you want meals organised around nutrition goals and how often you cook. Its most useful test is whether one cooking session produces the right food for the following days.

Mealime closes on 21 October 2026. Its Pro recipes and features are now available to all users, with no further subscription charges. Its recipes continue in free Meals Hub, through Albertsons Companies apps and websites. You can still browse, plan and make lists without a nearby store. Mealime’s official announcement makes this the free alternative to compare with a new MealPrepPro subscription; it does not promise a complete transfer of your private account collection.

Do you need a dinner plan or a preparation plan?

A list of meals tells you what you intend to eat. A preparation plan also needs to answer when you will cook, how many portions you will make and which meal those extra portions cover. If a busy week repeatedly interrupts your dinner plan, that second layer can matter.

MealPrepPro describes creating plans from preferences and goals, adjusting recipe portions, allowing recipe swaps and building a shopping list. Its help centre also explains optional batch preparation: you choose how much of the plan to cook ahead. Its product introduction was updated 25 November 2025.

The plan-creation guide, updated 11 January 2024, gives a concrete route: tap Create Plan or +, choose days, plan style, meal slots, people, cooking frequency, meal calories and exclusions. The app then generates the plan and shopping list. You provide the schedule and preferences; recipe selection and quantities are generated within those choices.

This suggests a different comparison from simply counting recipes. Ask whether the app helps you commit to a manageable cooking schedule. Cooking an extra lunch with dinner is a valid starting point; you do not need to prepare every meal on Sunday.

Household members and devices

MealPrepPro’s 9 January 2025 household guide says to use Profile → Add a person. Each person can have individual calories; select them when creating a plan or use Add People on a particular meal. A partner joining dinner therefore need not also be included in every lunch.

The US App Store listing, checked 12 September 2026, supports iPhone and iPad on iOS/iPadOS 15 or later. MealPrepPro also has an official Android download route. Its 9 January 2025 sharing guide describes syncing a household’s plan and shopping list through the same account on those devices; this is distinct from adding each person’s portion settings.

What changes automatically—and what does not

The 11 January 2024 calorie-goal guide documents either calculated or manually entered targets. Changing the daily goal updates future targets, recipe browsing and the plan creator, but does not update recipes already in your plan. After a change, review those scheduled meals rather than assuming the existing week has been recalculated.

For specific protein, fat and carbohydrate amounts, the 17 May 2023 Custom Macros guide documents selecting Custom Macros in the plan’s diet settings and editing those values. That is an explicit input, not evidence that a generated menu guarantees a nutrition outcome.

Build a week around two cooking sessions

Consider a simple example: cook dinner on Monday and make two additional lunch portions, then cook again on Wednesday. Leave a flexible evening between those sessions. This reveals how the planner treats batch quantities without requiring an ambitious seven-day commitment.

Check the difference between people and portions. Two people having dinner plus two lunches later means four portions from one cook. If one person needs a larger serving, inspect how the recipe and list reflect that choice rather than assuming every portion is interchangeable.

Practical equipment matters too. Read the method against the size of your pans, the number of containers you have and how you will transport lunch. A plan can be mathematically consistent while still asking more of your kitchen than you want to do on a work night.

A worked schedule for two people: two cooking sessions, with lunch carried forward. These are planning quantities, not app-tested results.
CookEat from that batchQuantity to review in the recipe and list
Monday dinnerTwo dinners Monday; two lunches Tuesday.Four meal portions from one cook, adjusted if individual portions differ.
Tuesday eveningA separate flexible dinner. The carried-forward lunches do not cover this dinner.
Wednesday dinnerTwo dinners Wednesday; two lunches Thursday.A second batch of four meal portions.

Turn that schedule into a shopping list

After generating the plan, check the pantry, add household extras with + and remove unneeded ingredients. The shopping guide, updated 9 January 2024, documents sharing, Apple Reminders export and grocery export to Instacart in the US/Canada or Amazon Fresh in the US/UK. Those are documented regional options; check your app and delivery address for availability. Exporting ingredients is separate from reviewing products, delivery fees and completing a retailer order.

If the week works, the 21 March 2022 repeat-plan guide documents Week → Edit → Copy week, then selecting a destination week. It is a deliberate copy action, useful for reusing a manageable routine.

What should you expect to pay?

Checked on 12 September 2026: the official website describes a popular annual plan as working out to about $5 per month and says prices vary by country. The US App Store lists purchase amounts including US$9.99 and US$59.99, alongside other offers. Its public product labels do not identify the term for each amount, so these are observed US listing prices, not a verified monthly/annual quote for your account. The purchase screen supplies the exact term, total and renewal amount.

MealPrepPro offers monthly and yearly subscriptions and a seven-day trial redeemable once. Its subscription help, updated 28 February 2024, says payment is taken on day seven unless cancelled. The website advises cancelling within the first six days; the Apple listing specifies at least 24 hours before the subscription period ends. Use the billing provider and deadline shown in your own subscription. Groceries and any retailer charges are separate.

A week is enough to test a modest preparation cycle if you start with a realistic plan. Judge the value by what changes after shopping and cooking: fewer last-minute decisions, usable portions for later and an amount of preparation you are willing to repeat.

Your first preparation cycle

  1. Set the people, food preferences and meals you actually want planned. Leave already-settled meals alone where the controls allow.
  2. Choose one recipe you would happily eat twice, then examine the portions and assigned days.
  3. Review every ingredient in the shopping list. Distinguish one larger cook from two independent copies of the recipe.
  4. Cook the planned batch and assess the equipment, time and portions in practice.
  5. Return the following day, record what you actually ate and check whether the remaining plan still makes sense after any changes.

For favourites from Mealime, preserve original links and readable backups. MealPrepPro’s personal-recipe help, updated 28 February 2024, documents Recipes → My Recipes → View All → New Recipe, with a name and nutrition information. That article treats adding photos and steps as a future expansion. It therefore does not establish a full Mealime recipe import or upload of our TXT/JSON backup files. If your main aim is preserving complete cooking instructions, compare a recipe-organising option such as MealPot; MealPot recipe import requires Pro.

If you find yourself changing almost every suggested meal, record why. The settings may need adjusting, or you may prefer to choose recipes first and schedule preparation separately. The right result is a repeatable cooking rhythm, not a week you can follow only once.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to eat the same food every day with MealPrepPro?

No. Its official FAQ describes flexible preparation, from an extra dinner portion for lunch to a larger batch. Test the amount of repetition you enjoy instead of assuming meal prep requires identical meals all week.

Is MealPrepPro available on Android?

Its current official website says yes. Use the official download route and verify availability for your device and region before subscribing.

Is MealPrepPro’s advertised $5 amount a monthly bill?

No. The website presents it as an equivalent for a popular annual plan and says prices vary by country. Check your full billing term and total; the public US App Store purchase labels do not clearly map each displayed amount to a term.

Will changing my calorie goal update meals already planned?

The official calorie-goal guide says no. It updates targets and future recipe/plan-creator values, but recipes already in the plan need your attention.

Can two people have different portions?

MealPrepPro documents adding household members with individual calorie settings and including them in the whole plan or selected meals. Review the resulting batch quantities for everyone who will eat.

Can I copy a successful week?

The published repeat-plan workflow is Week → Edit → Copy week, then choose the destination week. This is a manual copy action.

Keep the dinners worth keeping.

Save one favourite, check the copy and plan a small first week.
