AT A GLANCE
Use official web access for a computer workflow. A download labelled “Mealime for PC” is not evidence of an official Windows app or continued service availability.
Start with the browser route.
On Windows or Mac, open Mealime’s official web login. The public page checked on 12 September 2026 has email and password fields, a Remember me option and an “I don’t have my password” route. Mealime’s own homepage links there through Log in. This confirms a browser entry point; private recipes and lists still require your account.
Begin there if you want a larger screen for organising copies. If login is the obstacle, use the account-access guide. Keep a working phone session available so you can copy useful recipe links without first solving desktop login.
Mealime will be discontinued on 21 October 2026. Pro is currently free and existing subscriptions will not renew, according to version 4.21.35’s release notes. Its official continuation route is free Meals Hub. Changing the device you use does not avoid the service closure.
What you can do from a computer
| Route | Useful for | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Public recipe webpage | Read an individual shared recipe and retain its source link. | Does not reveal your private favourites or meal plan. |
| Mealime web login | Access your account in a browser; older help documents printing its grocery list. | Login is required for account content; a login page alone does not confirm every signed-in feature still works. |
| Local TXT or PDF copy | Read a saved recipe or shopping snapshot without the original app. | No automatic updates, account access or new plan generation. |
| Meals Hub website | Continue with Mealime’s catalogue, planning and shopping tools. | Use an Albertsons Companies account and establish preferences there. |
The public recipe example and backup steps are below. The account-print route comes from Mealime’s sharing instructions; the Meals Hub capabilities come from its closure FAQ.
Be precise about what a PC download offers.
Windows: the official routes reviewed here provide browser access and mobile apps, with no official Windows installer identified. A page titled “Mealime for PC” may instead package an emulator or browser shortcut. Start with Mealime’s own website to identify the publisher and destination.
Mac: Apple’s listing is designed for iPad and marked “Not verified for macOS,” but its compatibility section includes macOS 12.5 or later on an Apple M1 Mac or later. This is the mobile app’s listed Mac compatibility, not evidence of a separate Mac desktop edition; it does not cover Intel Macs. The browser route remains relevant on both kinds of Mac. Mealime’s current App Store listing.
Emulators: running an Android app inside another environment changes how it launches, not the online service it contacts. An APK or emulator installation is not a recipe archive. If keeping recipes is the objective, save readable files. Our Android guide explains the same distinction for old app packages.
Print or save a grocery-list snapshot.
Mealime’s older sharing documentation describes opening Grocery List from the web meal-plan screen and using the printer icon near the bottom. The browser or system print dialog can then be used for a paper copy or a PDF, where available. The instructions date from July 2019; look for the corresponding control in the current interface.
Open the resulting document before relying on it. Check that the list is complete and readable, including any extra groceries you entered yourself. A PDF does not update when the app’s list changes. Put a date on the file or printed sheet and agree which version your household will use.
Build a small recipe folder you can understand.
Create a folder for the recipes you actually want to keep. Give each file a recognisable title and keep the original source link inside the document. If a dish has a personal variation, put that in a clearly labelled note. You should be able to identify the recipe without opening a dozen files.
A simple example is a folder with three regular dinners, a note listing this week’s meals and a shopping-list snapshot. Open one recipe on the phone you use for cooking as well as on the computer. This catches practical problems such as a file format that is convenient at a desk but awkward in the kitchen.
Use the website backup without installing an app.
A public recipe link can be useful even when you are logged out. For example, Mealime’s Garlic-Parmesan Chicken Tenders recipe returned recipe data without account credentials on 12 September 2026: two servings, 25 minutes, ten ingredient entries and eleven steps. Six ingredient lines lacked numeric amounts. That is enough to demonstrate why a visible recipe and a complete cooking copy are different things.
- Get the individual link. In Mealime, open the recipe and use its Share control to copy the link. Transfer the link to your computer, or copy the address of a public recipe already open in your browser. A private favourites-page address will not work.
- Open the free backup tool. Choose Recipe links, paste the address and select Preview recipes. You can also load the public example.
- Review the content. Compare servings, ingredient amounts and every instruction with your original. “Ready to review” means the basic sections were found. It does not certify that all quantities are present. If you recover missing text, use Paste text and preview the corrected recipe.
- Confirm and download. Check the ingredient-and-step review box, then select Download readable copy. Open
recipe-backup.txtin a text editor. More backup options contains the separate JSON download. - Keep the file, not just the bookmark. Move it to your recipe folder and open the same copy on the device you cook with. The downloaded text can be read offline; making the preview needs an internet connection. Recipe photos are not packaged into these files.
These are the controls in our browser backup tool. It also accepts text-based PDF, HTML and TXT files, up to ten files of 2 MB each; it does not read image-only scans. No account is needed, and the tool does not sign in to Mealime or collect your private favourites.
Saving a recipe inside MealPot is a separate individual URL import route requiring Pro. MealPot supports iPhone and iPad on iOS/iPadOS 17 or later; these TXT/JSON downloads are not its app import format. MealPot’s App Store listing.
Continue in a planner that works on your computer.
For the Mealime catalogue, use the official Meals Hub web route. Open the store selector linked by Mealime, choose a store and follow the redirect to its Meals Hub experience. Create or use an Albertsons Companies account and set preferences there. Meals Hub is free, includes all Mealime recipes and supports recipes, plans and lists even when you cannot shop at a nearby store. Official web-access and account guidance.
For a personal recipe library, Plan to Eat offers a website plus phone apps; Paprika has dedicated desktop versions. Check the relevant platform cost and sync workflow before moving a collection. Our Meals Hub guide and alternatives guide explain the choices. The browser backup on this website works independently of installing MealPot’s mobile app.
Common questions
Is a “Mealime for PC” download necessarily official?
No. The official routes reviewed here do not identify a Windows installer. Check whether a download is a web shortcut, emulator or other software, and start from Mealime’s own website.
Can I use the MealPot backup on Windows?
Yes, through a browser. The website backup does not require the MealPot mobile app or an account. Review the recipe and save the TXT file for a readable local copy.
Will a grocery-list PDF update automatically?
No. It is a snapshot. Save a new version or communicate changes when the plan changes.
Do I need to log in to read every Mealime recipe?
Individual public recipe pages can be accessible without login, as the linked example demonstrates. Your private favourites and meal plan are different: a public link does not expose that account content.
Is there a separate Mealime Mac app?
The App Store lists Apple-silicon Mac compatibility for its mobile app, with macOS 12.5 or later, while marking macOS unverified. This does not establish a separately designed Mac edition. You can use the official web route in a Mac browser.
