QUICK ANSWER

Unit price = price ÷ size. A $3.75 bag of 32 oz costs $0.117 per ounce; a $1.77 bag of the same size costs $0.055. Compare products in the same unit. The calculator converts ounces, pounds, grams, fluid ounces, liters and counts for you.

Price per unit calculator.

How to calculate unit price.

  1. Divide the price by the amount. $3.75 ÷ 32 oz = $0.117 per ounce.
  2. Use the same unit for both products. 1 lb = 16 oz, 1 oz = 28.35 g, 1 kg = 2.205 lb, 1 liter = 33.81 fl oz, 1 gallon = 128 fl oz.
  3. Compare what you will actually use. A cheaper unit price isn’t a saving if half the pack goes off. Price per item works for eggs, tortillas and cans: $1.67 for 12 eggs is $0.139 an egg.

Weight (oz, lb, g, kg) and volume (fl oz, ml, liter, gallon) can’t be compared directly without the food’s density, so the calculator compares within each kind and tells you when products don’t match.

The jasmine rice costs about twice as much per ounce as plain long-grain rice in the same size bag. If a recipe doesn’t need jasmine, that swap halves the cost of the rice.

Common questions.

How do you calculate the unit price?

Divide the price by the quantity: price ÷ ounces gives price per ounce. To compare two products, put both in the same unit first, for example by converting pounds to ounces (× 16).

How do I compare price per ounce and price per gram?

Convert one to the other: 1 ounce = 28.35 grams, so a price per ounce ÷ 28.35 is the price per gram. The calculator above does this automatically when products use different weight units.

Is the bigger package always cheaper per unit?

Usually, but not always. Sales, store brands and multipacks can make a smaller package cheaper per ounce. Check the numbers, and count only what you will use before it spoils.

Can I compare fluid ounces with ounces?

Only for water-like liquids, where 1 fl oz weighs about 1 oz. For oil, honey or yogurt the weight and volume differ, so compare products sold in the same kind of unit.

What is a good price per pound for chicken breast?

It varies by store and week. One reference: a 3 lb bag of frozen store-brand chicken breasts was $9.47 on walmart.com when we recorded it (25 September 2026), about $3.16 per pound. Use the calculator with your store’s current price.
