TWO SEPARATE JOBS

A planner identifies ingredients. A retailer fulfils an order. Check the current service at your address before depending on a handoff. Mealime’s closure notice names 21 October 2026 as its discontinuation date.

Read older integration guides with their dates in mind.

Mealime’s getting-started guide, updated 3 December 2020, describes retailer handoffs including Kroger, Walmart and Instacart. In the Kroger example, the shopper enters a ZIP code, selects a store, signs in and reviews products before moving to the retailer’s app or website to choose a time and pay. Walmart’s example requires product and quantity selection. These are historical instructions, not confirmation of a working integration at every address today.

The Thrifty Foods guide, updated 13 October 2020, documents Grocery list → top-right menu → Grocery delivery & pickup → Thrifty Foods. It requires retailer sign-in and explicitly asks the shopper to check amounts. It also notes that not every store offers both fulfilment methods.

Mealime closes on 21 October 2026. Pro features are now free and existing subscribers face no further subscription fees before closure; that does not make groceries or delivery free. Meals Hub continues the catalogue, recipes, plans and lists, including without a nearby Albertsons Companies store. Official closing notice.

Finish the ingredient list before sending it.

Confirm the meals and serving counts first. Remove ingredients you have enough of and add the groceries your recipes do not cover. If you change the plan after starting the order, compare the new list with the basket; do not assume that the order has changed with it.

Preserve useful requirements such as drained weight, dry weight or an essential dietary specification. “One pack” can mean different amounts across brands. “Enough for 300 g dry pasta” gives you a requirement to check against the product label.

If someone else is placing the order, agree on suitable substitutions before they begin. A note such as “any suitable plain yoghurt, at least 350 g” can be helpful. An essential allergy or dietary requirement needs checking against the actual product information, including any substitute proposed later.

Check six things before paying.

CheckWhat to confirm
LocationThe correct address, retailer and collection point if applicable.
ProductsThe form of each ingredient and all essential product requirements.
AmountsPack size multiplied by pack count covers the recipe need.
SubstitutionsYour preferences for unavailable products and any restrictions.
FulfilmentA delivery or collection slot that fits when you need the food.
TotalGroceries, applicable charges and any conditions on promotions.

For example, a list needing 600 g of an ingredient is not covered by a single 400 g product simply because its name matches. Two packs provide 800 g; now decide what to do with the remaining 200 g. The pack-size worksheet makes that extra purchase visible.

Keep any recipe cost estimate separate from the payable total. You may be buying full bottles, tubs and bags even when dinner uses only a fraction. Delivery or service charges can change the comparison again. Read the final checkout rather than treating a per-serving figure as a quote.

There can be a further difference between checkout and the final receipt. Safeway says its checkout total is an estimate because weighted items, substitutions, unavailable products and charges can affect the final amount. Its FAQ also distinguishes a temporary card authorisation from the final charge. Those are retailer-order rules, not evidence that transferring a Mealime list has placed or paid for an order. Safeway’s totals and payment explanation.

Locate the part of the process that failed.

If you cannot sign in to the retailer, try its official website or app directly to see whether the issue is with that account. If the basket opens but no slots appear, inspect the retailer’s current local availability. If products are missing, compare the list line by line and add suitable matches through the retailer.

If the concern is whether an order was actually placed, check the retailer’s order history or confirmation before starting another checkout. A basket full of items only shows that products were selected. For an order already placed with Safeway, its FAQ directs customers to Orders under their name for available changes or cancellation. Use retailer support for delivery, substitutions and payment questions; use Mealime support for a problem confined to the list connection. Safeway order-management guidance.

Keep a readable ingredient list available while resolving the problem. It lets you shop directly or in person without reconstructing the meals. You do not need a working planner-to-retailer link to use a list of ingredients and quantities.

Keep MealPot’s planning and your checkout distinct.

  1. Ingredient list: decide what the meals require after checking your pantry.
  2. Retailer basket: choose actual products and enough packs to cover those requirements.
  3. Checkout: review substitutions, fulfilment, charges and payment before submitting an order.
  4. Order confirmation: retain the retailer’s record and check any later changes.
  5. Delivery or pickup: compare the received items and final receipt with what you ordered.

MealPot’s shopping list gives you ingredient entries to review alongside the plan. Take that list to the shop or service you choose and build the actual basket there.

When switching, save your familiar recipes and record the delivery requirements that matter to you: retailer, address coverage, collection preference and acceptable fees. The website’s backup tool preserves recipe copies; it does not order groceries. Our store-agnostic guide explains how to keep the wider routine portable.

Common questions

Did Mealime work with Instacart?

Yes. Mealime’s guide updated 3 December 2020 describes sending a list to Instacart’s mobile website after choosing a store and postal code. Shoppers still selected ingredient quantities there. This historical workflow does not establish that the connection works at your address today.

Does transferring a grocery list place an order?

No. Product selection, checkout and an order confirmation are separate stages. Review the retailer basket and complete its ordering process; do not treat a list transfer as payment.

Does free Mealime Pro include free grocery delivery?

No such benefit is established by the closing notice. Free Pro concerns app features; the retailer determines grocery prices and fulfilment charges.

Does exporting a recipe send its groceries to a retailer?

No. The MealPot website backup tool creates a recipe file. Building and placing a grocery order is a separate action in your chosen shopping service.

Can I use Meals Hub if no nearby store delivers?

Mealime says you can still browse recipes, create plans and generate lists without a nearby Albertsons Companies store. Take the list to an available shop or service.
