AT A GLANCE

What changed. Samsung bought Whisk in 2019 and rebranded it in August 2023. The app is still free for saving, planning and lists; Food+ costs $6.99 a month or $59.99 a year and the free tier limits personalised recommendations to three days. Reviewers have reported the browser clipper working unreliably since the rebrand.

Get your recipes out first. Samsung Food’s help centre documents saving and collections but no one-click export that we could verify. Ask for your data through account settings, and keep the source links of the recipes you cook.

Secure your recipes before you compare

Open your saved recipes on the web and note the source link of each one you actually cook; most Whisk-era saves point at recipe sites that are still online. Request a copy of your account data from Samsung Food’s account settings and keep whatever comes back. Do this before trying anything else, so the comparison is free of risk. Mealime users are learning this month what it costs to skip it.

You mainly clipped recipes from websites

Paprika 3 ($4.99 per platform, one-time) has the most reliable clipper among the apps we compared and stores everything on your device. AnyList clips from most sites and turns ingredients into a shared list in one tap. Both clip from the source links you saved, so the list you made is not wasted.

You want the weekly plan and the grocery list done for you

MealPot (iPhone and iPad, free to download) is the closest to “decide for me”: it plans a week from your preferences and household size and writes one aisle-sorted grocery list, with 1,676 tested dinners built in. Plan to Eat ($5.95 a month or $49 a year) is for people who want to drag their own recipes onto a calendar and get the list from that.

You want to stay free

Samsung Food’s free tier is still generous for saving and lists, and it is the only one of these with a fridge-camera pitch. If your objection is the three-day recommendation limit rather than the app, keep it and plan manually. MealPot is free to download with the full recipe library browsable; its Pro tier unlocks the generated weekly plan and recipe import.

Moving in an afternoon

  1. List the source links of the recipes you cook from Samsung Food.
  2. Clip them into Paprika or AnyList, or re-save your ten favourites into MealPot or Plan to Eat.
  3. Build one week and one list, and shop it before deleting anything.
